Thursday: Where do you eat dinner?

When I was a child we always ate dinner at the table.

What about you?

Did you sit at the dining table or have dinner in front of the TV?

Research (see below link) carried out in the UK has found that six out of ten meals are now eaten in front of the television.

Daily Mail - Meal time Research

When my daughter was little we used to feed her in the high chair. We then ate our meals in front of the TV. As she got older and could eat the same meals as us we moved to the dining table.

To be honest, we first moved to the dining table because she didn't eat and just watched TV. Moving to the table was to make her focus on her dinner.

Over the years I have found that I prefer the family eating at the table. It gives us a structure to meal times that my kids seem to need.

Although, if I ever have a night to myself (in my dreams!) I do tend to sit in front of the TV to eat dinner. As far as my family is concerned, I use the saying "Do what I say, not what I do". It feels like I am being a little bit naughty to watch TV while I eat.

So, what about you?

Do you eat at the table or in front of the TV? If you eat in front of the TV and have kids, how do you get them to actually eat? (Any tips gratefully received)
